Grammar in Use [1] - Present Continuous, 현재진행형

1. Present Continuous : 현재진행형 (At the time of Speaking)

-> Things(Actions, happenings) happen at or around the time of speaking

① Not necessarily happening at the time of speaking

꼭 말 하고 있을 때 그 행동을 해야만 하는 것은 아님

: 나 요즘 ~하는 중이야 Started it in the past but not finish it yet

ex. I want to work in Italy, so I'm studying Italian.

I'm building my own house. I hope to finish it next summer

② Talk about changes happening around now

get, change,  become, increase, rise, fall, grow, improve, begin, start 와 같이 '점차 ~~하다' 는 동사들

ex. Is your English getting better?

At first, I didn't like my job, but now I'm beginning to enjoy it

The population is increasing very fast

cf) fast는 형용사 부사가 모두 다 되는 단어로 fastly 라고 하지 않음.

fastly 는 고어로 현대 영어에선 사용하지 않음.

③ Today, This week, This year같이 periods around now 인 경우에 사용 가능

ex. The company I work for isn't doing so well this year

You're working hard today.(Not you work hard today)

cf) hard는 열심히 과도하게 세게 강하게 등등의 뜻을 갖고있지만

hardly 는 거의 ~아니다.  아마 아니다. 틀림없이 아니다 등 부정어구의 뜻을 가지고있다.

④ Temporary Situation

ex. I'm living with my friend until I find a place of my own

I want to lose my weight, so I'm not eating lunch this week
